Naturopathy

What is Naturopathy?

Naturopathy is a holisitc, or whole body, health care system. It draws on a range of traditional health care systems that focus primarily on natural medicine and wellness.

The first aim of Naturopathy is to do no harm. Health and wellness is supported by helping people to promote the natural healing power of the body.

Naturopathy is not intended to replaced conventional medicine but to complement it by supporting the healing process.

Naturopathy aims to improve overall health by assisting people to improve their nutrition, adopt a healthy lifestyle, increase their immunity and develop wellness with a view to preventing dis-ease.

A Naturopath may recommend the use of herbs, minerals, flower remedies and supplements as well as nutritional and lifestyle advice.

What happens when you come to see a Naturopath?

The Naturopath will begin by taking a detailed health history from you and will ask you what your main concerns are about your current health. You will be asked to recall your diet over the past 24 hours. You may need to undergo a number of tests to check your zinc levels, your blood pressure, your blood sugar levels and you make be asked to provide a urine or saliva sample for testing. You will be asked about your daily bodily functions and the quality of your sleep.

These tests and questions enable the Naturopath to get a picture of your current health and to identify possible nutritional deficiencies or potential health issues.

Naturopaths do not diagnose illness but you will be asked about any diagnoses provided by your doctor as well as details of medication as this information will assist the Naturopath to recommend appropriate lifestyle changes and products where required.
